Dear FSUS Community: Welcome to the 2008-2009 schoolyear! We have made a smooth transition to the school year considering our scheduling woes and the near capacity of our classrooms for this year. Our sixth thru eighth grades have 165 students per grade level meeting our full capacity and stretching our class space. Our teachers have done a wonderful job of overcoming some situations and dealing with the students in a very flexible manner. Our students have been selected for honor programs and regular classes based on performance, FCAT scores, and teacher recommendations. Other students must have remediation to meet the state's level of minimum performance. And, we are supporting our special needs students with an inclusion model for this year in mathematics and language arts. Our sixth grade program was very beneficial to determine placement and needs of students based on pretest scores. Students were able to secure lockers and gather their PE uniforms for the school year. Above all, students were reminded of the code of conduct for their behaviors at the school. Our first big event will be the Open House set for Tuesday, September 16th at 6:00pm. The program will last until approximately 8:00 pm where parents will see student work and hear teachers speak of their classroom expectations. Your child will be bringing home more information regarding the Open House soon. We anticipate a great year for the students and staff. We hope that we meet your expectations of the performance of your child for postsecondary education. Wish you all well!
