Flight at Night into the Light

"Flight 4306 to Tallahassee is now boarding at gate 3E." We gathered our
belongings and walked through the terminal onto the plane. Our trip to New
York had finally ended and we were talking about all the fun we had as we
took our seats.
After going through all the safety procedures we took off from sunny
Charlotte, North Carolina, on our way home. Before we knew it, we were
flying over Atlanta, Georgia, into a huge thunderstorm. At about 6:30, I
looked out my window. To my surprise, the sky had turned black. I turned to
my mom. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a bright flash. I
turned my head quickly, and three more bolts lit up the sky. The pilot came
on and advised us to fasten our seat belts because we were in for the ride of
our lives. Suddenly the plane hit some turbulence, and the plane dropped.
Out of fright I grabbed my mom screaming, "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!" She
looked at me and said, "Do not worry, itís not going to harm us." I replied,
"I know mom, lightning is caused from positive and negative charged particles
in the cloud, which forms the lightning bolt. Besides, we are almost above
the lightning so it cannot strike us" After this fantastic light show had
begun, I stared out the window for the rest of our trip home. The
beautifully lit sky shown colors ranging from lilac to lavender to fuchsia to
raspberry to magenta and everywhere in between. Sometimes only one jagged
bolt of lightning would strike followed by a low roll of thunder. However,
it seemed as if ten bolts would magnificently light up the sky then repeating
the same pattern for about five minutes with loud claps of thunder like a
bowling alley accompanying it. We followed the storm most of the way, but
soon we had the lead. We landed in Tallahassee, knowing we had about 20
minutes to get home before the storm.
As we began unloading our luggage from the car, it began to drizzle. As we
set the last suitcase in the house, the storm began. We described our flight
to my dad, as we watched it happen from our window. The terrifying storm had
followed us from Atlanta to Tallahassee.
