Reading Clues for any Chapter

Answer these questions in your science log.

1.        Preview the entire section by turning each page slowly looking at headings and pictures.

a.        What pictures and ideas look familiar to you?

b.        What does NOT look familiar to you?

2.        What is in the margin on p. 426 that will help you know what is important?

3.        What clues are within the text to let you know what is important?

4.        At the beginning of the section, find the

a.        Section 1 heading

b.        Major headings in blue

c.        Subheadings in red

d.        Change each heading into a question

5.        What new information is in each picture?

6.        At the end of the section, Read the summary and the self check.

What is the benefit of reading these BEFORE reading the section?
