On May 6, 2004,
Florida High will join thousands of students from around the world who
will connect, communicate and collaborate at Megaconference Jr.
sponsored by Ohio State University.
Using multipoint videoconferencing equipment and internet2
technology, over 100 schools from 11 different countries will
‘teach’ and ‘learn’ in real-time from 7 am to 7 pm EST. During
the day, selected students and teachers will present a variety of
topics. Participants will be able to interact with the presenters via
audio and video. Mrs. Linda Jones’ has been selected to present a ‘Virtual Poster”, a web page that will feature the board games that her 9th graders created as part of the final assessment for the Romeo and Juliet unit. Mrs. Cathy McQuone’ students will demonstrate the culminating weather unit project, Building Hurricane-proof Houses. Our students will have the opportunity to use cutting-edge technology that will pave the way for future opportunities for connections by teachers and students around the world. The ultimate goal of the videoconference is to raise cultural awareness, build international collaboration into our existing curriculum objectives and create sustainable global partnerships. Louis Fox, Director of the Internet2 K-20 Initiative said, “Megaconference Jr. is an exciting international collaboration, encouraging partnerships among schools and engaging new communities of interest, and enhancing teaching and learning by stimulating projects that explore the ways in which advanced network applications and content can extend access to education and educational resources across the globe.” |
