Foreign Language Major
Students are encourages to take a foreign language course every year of their high school career. Two credits in the same language are required for admission into state universities. To earn a foreign language major, students may take 2 years of one language and 2 years of another, 4 courses in one language, or 3 in one language and 1 year in another language.

CHINESE I
Purpose of this course is to enable students to begin to acquire proficiency in Chinese through a linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach to language learning. Emphasis is placed on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and on acquisition of the fundamentals of applied grammar. Crosscultural understanding is fostered and real-life applications are emphasized throughout the course.

CHINESE II
The purpose of this course is to enable students to enhance proficiency in Chinese through linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach to language learning. There is continued emphasis on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and on acquisition of the fundamentals of applied grammar. Cross-cultural understanding is fostered and real-life applications are emphasized throughout the course.

LATIN I & II
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to fundamental Latin vocabulary and grammar and to classical culture.

LATIN III & IV
The purpose of this course is to enable students to enhance their proficiency in the foundations of Latin vocabulary and grammar and to expand their knowledge of classical culture.

LATIN V
The purpose of this course is to provide Latin students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge of Roman literature and culture, especially through the study of Roman drama.

LATIN AP
The purpose of this course is to progress in reading, understanding, and interpreting Latin in the original.

SPANISH I

SPANISH II

There is continued emphasis on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and on acquisition of the fundamentals of applied grammar. Cross-cultural understanding is fostered and real-life applications are emphasized throughout the course.

SPANISH III & IV
The purpose of this course is to enable students to enhance proficiency in Spanish through a linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach to language learning. There is continued emphasis on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Experiences with Spanish literature are broadened. Cross-cultural understanding is fostered and real-life applications are emphasized throughout the course.

SPANISH V
The purpose of this course is to expand previously acquired skills.

AP SPANISH LANGUAGE
The purpose of this course is to develop oral and written fluency in Spanish.
