Q. How do I apply for free or reduced-price lunches for my children?
A. You can get an application from the Tomahawk Café office, the business office or on line. It must be completed and returned to the Tomahawk Café office. If you send it to a teacher or to the office, it will take much longer to process. The application must have an original signature of the adult who completed it.

Q. If my child is approved for free or reduced-price lunches, when do their benefits start?
A. The benefits usually start the day after the application is approved. We cannot go back and grant benefits for breakfasts or lunches eaten before the approval date. It violates the regulations that we must follow in order to guarantee continued benefits for all children.

Q. How does the lunch account system work?
A. The lunch account system is a debit system. You deposit money into your child's account and the cost of their meal is deducted from the balance as they go through the lunch line. Any unspent money remains in your child's account as long as your child is a student at FSUS.

Q. Can I transfer money from one child's account to another child's account?
A. No. It is extremely difficult to track transfers in our system. In order to guarantee that dollars deposited by a child stay with that child, we do not transfer funds. This is a safeguard built into the system.

Q. My child has food allergies. What should I do to help prevent him/her getting a food they are not able to eat?
A. We are only allowed to substitute foods if we have a doctor's prescription indicating the allergy and the similar food to be substituted or foods to be avoided. There is a form on the forms page that should be used. A copy must be kept in the health office and in the food service office. Without a doctor's order, we are not permitted to substitute any food. We are not required to make substitutions but strive to do so whenever possible. If you have any questions, please contact the food services office.

A. No, the system will not allow a student to take money out of his/her account. It is part of the account safeguards and cannot be over-ridden.
