Florida State University Schools is a K-12 public, charter developmental research (laboratory) school, affiliated with the College of Education at Florida State University. Its charter was issued under Section 1002.33(5)(a), Florida Statutes.
POLICY
FSUS Admissions Policy Committee
The Florida State University Schools Admissions Committee will make all attempts to ensure an equitable selection process in order to establish and maintain a student body consistent with the demographic representation of the public school student population of the State of Florida as required by Section 1002.32 (4), Florida Statutes.
Membership
Members of the FSUS Admissions Committee will include: Elementary School Principal
Middle School Principal
High School Principal
Admissions Coordinator
Admissions Supervisor
Director or his designee (as appropriate)
Student Selection Process
An application for admission to FSUS, must be postmarked or electronically submitted, on or before the due date.
Students are randomly selected by computer to most closely represent the public school student population profile of the State of Florida (Section 1002.32 (4), Florida Statutes), based on the following demographics:
Gender
50% Female; 50% Male
Race
Caucasian 44.9%, African American 19.8%, Hispanic 27.3%, Multi Racial 4.8%, Asian Pacific Islander 2.8%, American Indian/Alaskan Native .30%. http://www.fldoe.org/eias/eiaspubs/pdf/newstudents.pdf
Socio-economic

Academic Ability
A representative curve of students by grade level with desired percentages reported in term of stanines for grades K, 6-12.

Vacancy Priority
Priority 1 - According to a contracted agreement between FSUS, Inc. and Southwood, 160 elementary school, 180 middle school, and 160 high school seats are allotted for Southwood students totaling 500 seats. (Refer to the FSUS Developmental Research Charter School Student Reservation Agreement).
Priority 2 - Eligible students of FSUS employees.
Priority 3 - Students with siblings currently enrolled in FSUS.
Priority 4 - Children of FSUS alumni.
No special consideration is given to individuals as a result of university affiliation, government position, or other factors beyond those mentioned previously.
Ties
Ties involving two or more students are broken by random selection.
Readmissions
Students involved with drugs, weapons, or who have been expelled from school, will not be considered for readmission. (See the current FSUS Student Code of Conduct.) Readmission to FSUS is determined by the administration, whose decision shall be final and non-appealable. Students owing money or fees from previous enrollment in FSUS will not be readmitted.
Leave of Absence
A leave of absence may only be granted by administration.
Grade Level Assignment
Requirements must be met at all grade levels for consideration for admission.
Unusual Circumstances
Enrolled Students of Employees
When a staff, administrative or faculty member vacates their position at FSUS, for any reason, their child /children, if selected under an employee seat designation, may remain enrolled in FSUS until the end of the school year, when they must then withdraw. This applies to all employees hired after April 1, 2007. If the child or children were admitted under a General seat designation, they shall be eligible to remain through graduation.
Deceased Employee
In the case that an employee is deceased, special consideration will be given to the children of the deceased for continued enrollment at FSUS; however, this does not guarantee enrollment beyond the end of the academic year during which the employee became deceased.
Research
FSUS through the College of Education at The Florida State University is a professional development and research school. Parents accepting an invitation for admission to FSUS are agreeing that their child/ children will be available to participate in FSU research projects and internships.
